During Captain Marvel's heyday in the 1940s and early 1950s, it was generally assumed that his home town was New York City. In fact, NYC was one of the few big cities that Cap didn't visit in his series of city stories.
While the Big Red Cheese was being published, te tallest building in te whole was the Empire State Building. It is a 102 story Art Deco skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan.
It stood as the tallest building in the world until the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Sadly, following the destruction of the World Trade Center on 2001, the Empire State Building again became New York City's tallest building.
In memory of the nearly 3,000 who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
